Preview of Univision’s “bombshell” report on Fast & Furious

Ed Morrissey

Pravda was more honest at its zenith than the MSM is.

See, in the USSR nobody really believed the propaganda.

In conversation several members who lived there before the Soviet transformation have opined that so transparent were the lies that only the most benighted actually believed. Everyone else operated under "official belief", just like they officially believed that "...next year is prosperity, this year maybe occasional spot shortages".

That explains, in part, the plummeting numbers of consumers of MSM news.   It also explains the relative popularity of FOX.  They serve an under served market.

As everybody knows, there is no such thing as a global war on terror anymore.

Dispatches From The War That Nobody Wants

As everybody knows, there is no such thing as a global war on terror anymore. Instead we live in a harmonious world of interfaith comity with only the occasional criminal act that is quickly and competently handled by law enforcement officials. As a result we can cut our defense budgets and get on with the real business of life, which is to say watching TV, going to the mall and voting to re-elect the strategic geniuses whose wise decisions and firm but thoughtful leadership gave us this tranquil world order.

As we celebrate this new age of peace, understanding and joy, here are a few stories that might matter if we didn’t have such a wise and level-headed government in Washington that was bent on soothing and quieting what might otherwise be an aroused and worried public opinion.

The office of the Director of National Intelligence is both confirming that the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi was deliberately planned in advance and excusing the White House for getting the story wrong. Officials are trying to determine if a mysterious, little known organization called “Al-Qaeda” had something to do with the attack. This doesn’t seem likely, as Al-Qaeda was reported dead or at least in what former Vice President Cheney would have called its “death throes” in Pakistan last spring, but you never know.....

The President of Yemen, meanwhile, is thanking the United States for its support for his efforts in his country’s ongoing anti-crime effort against randomly motivated groups of violent criminals in developments that have nothing in common with superficially similar movements anywhere in the world. In what was obviously a slip of the tongue he linked the criminals with “Al-Qaeda” and implied that some sort of international network was engaged in the violence in his country but such crazy talk by a man under a great deal of stress is best ignored. Only rampant paranoia with perhaps a touch of Islamophobia could link events in Yemen to anything warlike or global.

Lies that will certainly be revealed as lies is no way to govern. Although it may win you an election in a few weeks.

When, after months and years of denial, events suddenly pop up (like a pre-planned 9/11 attack on an American diplomatic outpost) that look very much as if the war on terror was still happening, millions of Americans begin to ask whether their leaders are just stupid or if something else is going on. If you want to stoke McCarthyism, deny that domestic Communism is a problem after domestic spies have sold our nuclear secrets to Stalin. If you want to stoke Islamophobia, don’t level with the people about the nature of the problems we face.
Indeed.

Ambassador Chris Stevens Is Dead; Al-Qaeda Is Alive

Rand Simberg

In our last discussion of Obama campaign myths, I recalled Joe Biden’s campaign bumper sticker that “Bin Laden is dead, and GM is alive.” We dismantled the latter part of it there. Now it’s time to take on the “Bin Laden is dead.”

Now just as GM is literally (as Joe Biden would say, whether it was or not) alive, if on life support, bin Laden is certainly dead, even if the evidence was disposed of, but in both cases, the phrases were code. With regard to the latter, it is code for “we beat al-Qaeda.” But in order to decode it, one must accept the premise that Osama bin Laden was identically equal to al-Qaeda, and that it would not survive his being fed to the fishes. And that is and always was nonsense.

We were not at war with Osama bin Laden. Unlike Hitler, he did not invent the ideology. He merely took an existing one, and implemented it in a way unprecedented in modern times (though it had been in full force for centuries in the past — unfortunately, most people are unaware of history). He is not, and never was, essential to its survival. There was no signing of a surrender on the deck of the Missouri tonight. The troops cannot come home simply because we killed one guy who had been on the run for years.

Obama went to Cairo to proclaim a new era in relations. Lowering the seas and healing the planet was not enough, now we would be friends with Islam. Then Islam would be friends with us.

Yes, a little over three years after the revolution of new Arab relations with the U.S., Barack Obama is being burned in effigy overseas.

How's that working out?

Go Ask Your Mother

Barack Obama wants you to ask your mom for an $18,000 birth control loan. Here's what she'd write back.

Governing While Republican

Whatever happened to the outrage?

Remember the widespread anger about the amount of warrantless wiretapping that went on during the years of the Bush administration? Remember the constant drumbeat of dire warnings about this egregious violation of the Constitution, and the media's reminders of widespread public opposition, and the calls for Bush's impeachment?
It's safe to say now, in retrospect, that he was really being accused of governing while Republican

Doug Ross shows graphically that the Obama adminstration has not merely carried on like the "Fascist" Bush/Cheney  cabal, but in a similarity to the explosion in the federal debt, have vastly expanded warrantless surveillance.

In case anyone was wondering if Obamaphones were real

From Jammie Wearing Fools

Ann Althouse - White Liberal Racist in Denial

Ann Althouse is a white Liberal law professor (and blogger) in Madison, Wisconsin who voted for Obama in 2008.  She's probably going to vote for him again in 2012.  Why?  Because Rush Limbaugh played an audio clip "over and over on his show yesterday."  Here's the video clip.  Please keep  in mind that Rush has a radio show so he could only play the audio.

Althouse asks: "Just How Racist Is the 'Obama Phone' Video?"  She concludes
There's some kind of political point to be be made about they way some people become dependent on government or unrealistic about what government can or should do, but there's an emotional level, below the rational mind, that this video/audio can reach, and when someone repeatedly plays it, as Rush did, it seems as though he's trying to stir up racial fears.

Apparently it stirred up Althouse's racial fears because she belongs to a class of people she says are  decent persons and ...
Decent people whose rational minds would reject explicit racial material can be emotionally manipulated. They get their fears stirred up. If this is what Romney supporters think they need to do to get their man elected, I hope they fail. And, frankly, I think they will fail. If people in the middle — like me — get the impression that fear of black people is supposed to be the reason to vote for Romney, we're going to vote for Obama. That's the America I believe in. I think I'm right about that.

Forget for a moment that Romney is not responsible to the Rush Limbaugh show.  What I want to focus on is the fact that Limbaugh never made any comment about this woman's race.  The race angle is entirely Althouse's.  In her mind, this woman (paid to demonstrate outside of Romney rallies by the SEIU) represents, not people who want free stuff, but black people in general.

I'm sure she would try to defend herself by claiming that you could tell the woman was black because of her speech pattern and that Limbaugh didn't have to say anything about her race to make a racist point.  But Limbaugh doesn't do race despite the claims from the Left that he's a racist.  Recall that his biggest controversy involved another individual who demanded free stuff; her name was Sandra Fluke and she was a white female.  He is opposed to government hand-outs and the redistribution of wealth from producers to consumers irrespective of their race or gender.

At this point we can only conclude that Althouse is a racist.  A female, white, Liberal law professor and a racist.  One of many.  She may not realize it herself and may not understand it and certainly won’t admit it, but her comments prove conclusively that she’s a racist.  Limbaugh never referred to the woman’s race.  Althouse is unloading her own attribution of blackness onto this woman, is appalled that this is what has happened to a class of people - which in her mind is colored black - and like any self-admiring Liberal transfers her racist attitude to Limbaugh.  If this woman were white, there is no question that Limbaugh would play the tape over and over again because of what it says about a freeloader society.

Althouse is the one that made it about race, not Limbaugh.  Althouse is the racist, not Limbaugh.

I used to enjoy reading Althouse's blog because she wrote about some interesting topics, but this blatant display of Liberal emotionalism, racism and lack of self-awareness combined with a sickening display of sanctimony is disturbing.  It's as if you found out a good friend is secretly a child molester.

Bye Ann.

French Tax Rates Guaranteed to Reduce Revenue

the Socialist government of France has introduced a new 75% tax rate.  This is absolutely guaranteed to reduce tax revenue from the intended victims, those earning over a million euros. The reason is fairly simple.

People earning a million euros can afford to stop working, defer income or simply move out of France.   But this exercise will be a great "teachable moment."

NBC Caught Doctoring Audio Again

This is a fascinating example of the way that NBC lies.

What's interesting is the easy way they get away with the lie because you "hear" what they put up on the screen.

When you add something for the eye -- lip movements, or chyron text suggesting to the eye (and then to the ears) what should be "heard" -- it wins the day. Given ambiguous inputs, the eye will "overrule" the ear and substitute its judgment.

Joe Scarborough is getting whacked on Twitter.

Is "Feckless" the way to describe Obama?

Thomas Sowell,

one of the wisest thinkers in America, wrote an article "Our Feckless First Leader" about Obama.  Especially about Obama and Israel.  He points out that while Obama pays lip service to Israel's defense, in reality he has been a defender of Israel's most mortal enemy, Iran.

The rhetoric of Obama 1 says that he will protect Israel but the actions of Obama 2 have in fact protected Iran from an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities — and now it is questionable whether Iran’s deeply buried nuclear facilities can be destroyed by the Israelis.
Those deeply buried facilities took time to build, and Obama’s policies gave them that time; his lackadaisical approach of seeking United Nations resolutions and international sanctions never had any serious chance of stopping Iran’s movement toward becoming a nuclear power. And Barack Obama had to know that.
In March, Foreign Policy magazine reported that “several high-level sources” in the Obama administration had revealed Israel’s secret relationship with Azerbaijan, where Israeli planes could refuel on the way to or from an air strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The administration feared “the risks of an Israeli strike on Iran,” according to these “high-level sources.” Apparently the risks of an Iranian nuclear strike on Israel are not so much feared.
This leak was one of the historic and unconscionable betrayals of an ally whose very existence is threatened. But the media still saw no evil, heard no evil, and spoke no evil.
The only question now is whether the American voters will wake up before it is too late — not just for Israel, but for America.

Read the whole thing for more insight into the real Obama.

Go large, Mitt

Charles Krauthammer urges Romney to make the election about big things instead of playing "small ball."
For six months, he’s been matching Obama small ball for small ball. A hit-and-run critique here, a slogan-of-the-week there. His only momentum came when he chose Paul Ryan and seemed ready to engage on the big stuff: Medicare, entitlements, tax reform, national solvency, a restructured welfare state. Yet he has since retreated to the small and safe.

The interesting thing is that Romney and Ryan are drawing large crowds, larger than Obama and despite an unrelenting attack by the MSM.  People are tired, no ... they are afraid ... of Obama.  Romney has a 50/50 chance of winning because he's not Obama.  If I were running the Romney campaign I would have two themes that would rally both the base and the undecided: domestic and foreign policy.  Here is how it would go:

This country has been in recessions before.  It has always rebounded sharply and come out better and more prosperous because the American people used their freedom and ingenuity and the American government has helped and encouraged them.  This time, under the Obama administration, that hasn’t been true.  Team Obama believed they were the smartest people in the room and decided they knew best by picking winners and losers.  But they squandered our money on their contributors and supporters.  On crony capitalists.  On windmills that don't supply power when the wind dies down and solar power manufacturers that go bankrupt taking your money down the drain with them.  So we did not recover, our people remain unemployed or have given up hope and left the labor force. And now economists fear that the anemic, the horrible so-called growth is ended and we’re headed into a even deeper recession when we never recovered from the first one.  This is not the fault of America’s people; it’s the fault of the Obama administration.  It's time for a change.
This country has faced troubles overseas before. We have been attacked before, our embassies have been invaded before.  Americans have been killed before.  But the American government has never before apologized for our basic freedoms to the attackers of our embassies.  Has never asked our enemies to please understand that we allow free speech.  We have never had a government that tried to shift the blame from the people who killed our people to something that we did.  We have never had a President who told the Russian leader that once he won re-election he would be free to make concessions.  The Obama administration began with an apology tour to the world, has wasted our military lives and treasure with a failed strategy in Afghanistan and today is despised by our enemies.  In past we may have been hated by people whose idea of freedom is submission to an ideology, but we were respected.  Today we are both hated and despised.  This is not the fault of the American people; it’s the fault of the Obama administration.  It's time for a change.
That is a speech that would bring me to my feet and seal the win in this election.

“COME ON HONEY, BRING YOUR MORTARS, WE’RE GOING TO A SPONTANEOUS DEMONSTRATION.”

Claire McCaskill’s Six Seconds

The Dana Show (read the rest)

McCaskill on Obama
Barack Obama, is, he, for the first time I think, as a black leader in America, has come to the American people not as a victim, but rather as a leader.
As ABC asked:
The first black leader to not come to the American people as a victim?
Um….
Martin Luther King Jr.?
Malcolm X?
Doug Wilder?
Do I even need to make this list?
So according to Sen. McCaskill, there have been no black leaders before Obama and all the ones you think were leaders were victims.

Pethokoukis: Year Of Sub-2% GDP Growth Signals A Recession 70% of the Time

I can only express my disgust so many times -- this is huge, and the media is embargoing it entirely.
U.S. economic growth is dangerously slow. I’ve frequently written about research from the Fed which finds that since 1947, when two-quarter annualized real GDP growth falls below 2%, recession follows within a year 48% of the time. And when year-over-year real GDP growth falls below 2%, recession follows within a year 70% of the time.
So, the media isn't going to cover the economy, and it isn't going to cover foreign policy. It will not cover the lack of prosperity, and to even things out, it will also not cover the lack of peace.
Wonder what they do intend to cover.
Oh, right.

7 Incredible Personal Stories About Mitt Romney That You May Not Know

John Hawkins at TownHall

Over the last few months, it has been absolutely stunning to see Mitt Romney, of all people, portrayed as some sort of greedy, ruthless, unfeeling corporate raider who plows over everyone who gets in his way so he can make a few dollars more. Of all the criticisms you could aim at Mitt Romney, there is none that has less validity than that one. In fact, the vast majority of people who read this column -- whether they're liberal, conservative, or moderate -- probably don't personally know a single person who has proven to be more generous and compassionate than Mitt Romney. Yes, really. It's okay if you're skeptical -- but, you won't be after you finish reading this column.

CNN's Acosta to Romney: 'If You Somehow Beat Obama,' How Would You 'Assure Blacks You'd Be Their President Also?'

Via Newsbusters.
CNN's Jim Acosta on Tuesday's Situation Room asked what many will think was a truly offensive question.

"If you were to somehow beat the first African-American president, what would you say to the black community to assure them that you would be their president also?"

JIM ACOSTA, CNN: African-Americans have a tremendous sense of pride that there is the first African-American president in the White House. If you were to somehow beat the first African-American president, what would you say to the black community to assure them that you would be their president also?

The first thing that should grab your eye is the word "somehow."

Somehow?

The economy stinks, the right-track/wrong-track numbers are upside-down, and the polls show a very tight race.

As such, how does Acosta think Romney winning is a long shot?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But even more offensive was asking how the Republican presidential nominee would "assure" blacks he's "their president also."

Did Romney only represent whites when he was governor of Massachusetts? Does Obama currently only represent blacks?
Hey Jim,  if you ever managed to report objectively, how would you convince people that you have changed from being a biased hack?

National Journal polling reporter Steven Shepard has no problem with 99% Democrat sampling being accurate

Hugh Hewitt interviews "veteran" "unbaised" reporter Steven Shepard - age 29 - and asked him if oversampling Democrats (or Republicans) would cause him to question the validity of a poll.  He answer, after lots of ducking and weaving and prodding, was that if he saw a pol that was 80-20 Democrat his first reaction would be to think that "there has been an important shift that we should be paying attention to."   To Steven Shepard, a poll like that would indicate to him that most Republicans had switched parties.

Hugh Hewitt: But I understand. But it would not cause you concern. If it was 100% Democrats, and they said Obama was ahead, it wouldn’t cause you concern?

Steven Shepard: I would write that if in a random sample of voters in a given state, or across the country, if 99% were identifying themselves as Democrats, but the poll was adequately weighted according to race, according to gender, according to age, I would look at education, I would look at income. And if everything else checked out, I would say well, maybe there’s an important shift going on. Obviously, this is, you know, a big exaggeration.

BOMBSHELL: OBAMA’S POSSIBLE TIES TO ARAB WORLD DEEPENS

A-Mansour is a black nationalist, Muslim, and a lawyer to Saudi princes who has publicly professed his hatred of the U.S. In a television interview in 2008, Percy Sutton (a prominent black political leader and former Manhattan borough president) told a reporter that Sutton was introduced to Obama by al-Mansour, who “was raising money for him [Obama]” and asked Sutton to write a letter in support of Obama’s application to Harvard Law School. Sutton wrote the letter in support of Obama, and the rest is history.

So let’s get this straight: Our President may have deep ties (personal and financial) not only to black nationalist extremists, but also wealthy Arabs who publicly floated the idea of financing, among other projects, the top-flight education of young black Americans who might (hopefully) one day share their hatred of America?

Here's a link to the original story in the Daily Inter Lake.  There were lots of leads and rumors before and during the 2008 election about the mysterious Barack Obama.  The Obama campaign dismissed them,  and the press dutifully dropped them.
This peculiar revelation [Precy Sutton interview] engendered a small hubbub in 2008, but was quickly dismissed by the Obama campaign as the ditherings of a senile old man. I don’t believe President Obama himself ever denied the story personally, and no one has explained how Sutton came up with this elaborate story about Khalid al-Mansour if it had no basis in fact, and in any case al-Mansour no longer denies it. (3)

I wonder if we'll ever get to the truth.

And it makes you wonder about all those millions and millions of dollars that Obama raised via untraced, fraudulent credit card donations from obviously fake contributors for his 2008 campaign.  You might wonder, but not the MSM.

Well, this could be another reason for Barack Obama's Rage.

How a State Department Spokesman ends his e-mail: "And by good day, I mean Fuck Off"

Read the whole thing at Powerline (it's been all over the Internet although the MSM won't touch it, of course).

It's near the end of a back-and-forth about a lot of sensitive and secret information being left lying on the ground after the attack on our ambassador in Libya.  It seems that not only was Chris Stevens’s diary found by a CNN reporter, but a lot of other information was left behind for anyone to pick up.

What's surprising about this is that someone would put something like this in writing.  The feeling of invincibility  - or arrogance - is staggering.

Media Put 18,000 in Not-Quite-Full 5,000-Seat Arena for Obama in Wisconsin

The media is going full out to make us think that Obama is winning.  Even to the extent of "reporting" that Obama spoke to a crowd of 18,000 in a stadium that held 5,000 people ... and wasn't full.

President Barack Obama is having trouble drawing large crowds on the campaign trail. At the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, his campaign was forced to move his acceptance speech from the 74,000-seat Bank of America Stadium to the 20,000 Time Warner Cable Arena, citing weather as the excuse. But the media are always eager to help--for example, putting 18,000 people inside a 5,000-seat arena at an Obama event in Milwaukee on Saturday.  ...

The pavilion was not "filled"--a local reporter for Patch.com filmed empty seats in the bleachers at the side of the arena (see above). Nevertheless, the Journal-Sentinal played it safe, putting attendance at roughly 5,000-plus, a small but respectable turnout.
That's not how national media covered it. Darren Samuelsohn of Politico reported that the president addressed "a crowd the Obama campaign estimated at 18,000 in a city park overlooking Lake Michigan" in an attempt to "lock up" Wisconsin.

Laura Meckler of the Wall Street Journal--whose news section, according to UCLA professor Tim Groseclose, is the most liberal of any major mainstream outlet--repeated the campaign's 18,000 claim without even revealing the source of the official-sounding estimate.

Both outlets described the location of the rally as a "park," without revealing the name of the arena itself, which would have given the game away.

Obama has the moron vote locked up.

If Obama were so confident, he wouldn’t be so flagrantly neglecting his official duties to feverishly campaign.

Nice Deb

Or appear on Entertainment Tonight, Letterman, Leno, The View, etc…I’m sure I’m missing some. He’s got his hardcore left-wing base motivated, so now he’s trying to shore up the stupid vote. He’s deploying his notorious *ahem* “charm offensive” so people who don’t normally vote will get registered and pull the lever for “President Eye Candy,” in November.
That’s exactly why it’s more important to him to go on The View and parlay with Whoopie, Baba and Behar, than meet with world leaders at the UN.
Talk about desperate.

Oh, have I mentioned the polls?
Obama and Romney Neck in Neck in OH Poll… WITH D+10 SAMPLE!

And the spending?
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus just held an impromptu press gaggle and said, “We’re going to outspend the DNC 10-to-1 for the next six weeks.” Asked about polls showing Romney-Ryan trailing in Ohio, Priebus said “we’re within a field goal and we’re going to crush [the Democrats] on the ground.”

This election won't be close.  The graveyard vote, the Chicago vote and the ACORN vote won't be enough.

Replacement refs doing the best they can. That's the problem. Sort of like President Obama.

I did not watch, but here's a quick summary:

If you didn't watch Monday Night Football, you missed out an amazing game. Mostly because of serial missed or flubbed calls by the replacement referees. The last call probably should have been "interception by Green Bay Packers." Instead it was, "Game-winning touchdown by Seattle Seahawks." The entirety of Wisconsin is currently rioting, I hear.

Is our ambassador's murder as "bump in the road," a "dust-up" or a “kerfuffle”?

It depends on who's talking; Obama, PBS’s Gwen Ifill or ...?

If you’re more offended by Romney saying “47%” than Obama saying our murdered ambassador is a “bump in the road,” #YouMightBeALiberal.
Yeah, those guys “bumped up” against Chris Stevens and the three other Americans who were trying to protect him, didn’t they? It was, as PBS’s Gwen Ifill phrased it, a “dust-up.” I wonder what will need to happen before this whole thing is upgraded to “kerfuffle”?
Take heart, though, America. Obama admits that he’s responsible for his actions as president… “to some degree.” Just don’t think that you get to decide the degree. He does. The buck stops here, “here” being a relative concept.
And if you have a problem with that, as Obama told Steve Kroft, he’s just going to “block out any noise that’s out there.”

A glass of wine

An e-mail from a friend ...

As Ben Franklin said:
In wine there is wisdom,In beer there is freedom,In water there are bacteria.

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed More than 1 kilo of (E. Coli) - bacteria found in feces.
In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.
However, we do not run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.
Remember:Water = Poop,Wine = HealthTherefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of s**t.

It's Clear That Obama's Price Hiking Policies are Working

What would Kim Kardashian do?

Rush Limbaugh announced that Obama cancelled his meeting with the Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood  Islamist leader of Egypt.  Using the UN General Assembly meeting of world leaders to NOT meet with the Israeli leader or the Egyptian leader - or any of the other leaders of countries where out embassies are under attack and there are calls for people who insult Islam to be minced into little pieces - Obama does what Kim Kardashian would do, goes on The View to chat with Barbara Walters and  Whoopi Goldberg. .

Of course.  It's what President Kardashian would do.

"If the president were a conservative Republican ..."

Walter Russell Mead

If the president were a conservative Republican rather than a liberal Democrat, I have little doubt that much of the legacy press would be focused more on what is wrong with America. There would be more negative reporting about the economy, more criticism of policy failures and many more withering comparisons between promise and performance. The contrast between a rising stock market and poor jobs performance that the press now doesn’t think of blaming on President Obama would be reported as demonstrating a systemic bias in favor of the rich and the powerful if George W. Bush were in the White House. The catastrophic decline in African-American net worth during the last four years would, if we had a Republican president, be presented in the press as illustrating the racial indifference or even the racism of the administration. As it is, it is just an unfortunate reality, not worth much publicity and telling us nothing about the intentions or competence of the people in charge.

The current state of the Middle East would be reported as illustrating the complete collapse of American foreign policy—if Bush were in the White House. The criticism of drone strikes and Guantanamo that is now mostly confined to the far left would be mainstream conventional wisdom, and the current unrest in the Middle East would be depicted as a response to American militarism. The in and out surge in Afghanistan would be mercilessly exposed as a strategic flop, reflecting the naive incompetence of an inexperienced president out of his depth. The SEALS rather than the White House would be getting the credit for the death of Osama bin Laden, and there would be more questions about whether killing him and then bragging endlessly and tastelessly about it was a contributing factor to the current unrest. Political cartoons of Cheney spiking the football would be everywhere.  It’s also likely we would have heard much more about how killing Osama was strategically unimportant as he had become an increasingly symbolic figure and there would have been a lot of detailed and focused analysis of how the foolish concentration on bin Laden led the clueless Bush administration to neglect the rise of new and potentially much more dangerous Islamist groups in places like Mali. The Libyan war would be widely denounced as an unconstitutional act of neocon militarism, with much more attention paid to the civilian casualties during the war, the chaos that followed, and the destabilizing effects on the neighborhood. The White House fumbling around the Benghazi murders would be treated like a major scandal and dominate the news for at least a couple of weeks.

If Bush were in the White House, the Middle East would be a horrible disaster, and it would all be America’s fault.

Mead goes on to discuss the decline of the MSM

Americans Turn on MSM: What Does It Mean?

I think he's too kind, that he represents the genteel vision of the MSM that's seen from academia.  But he's correct in that there is a shift in power that's brought about by the Internet that's as profound as the development of the automobile had on America in the early 20th century.

Journalism is one of the elements of our society that has been most profoundly affected by the decay of the blue social model and the rise of the information age. Old worries about news monopolies in local markets seem almost quaint when so much information from so many sources is so easy to get and when online startups (including blogs) are so easy and cheap. The erosion in the power of the great media companies of the past and the efforts of the great media enterprises to rethink their franchises for the new era have transformed the industry almost beyond recognition.
The national elite press does not, on the whole, welcome the decline of blue model America and, like academics and others whose interests, self-image and power in the world are adversely affected by the reshaping of American society, it naturally and almost inevitably interprets many of the changes taking place through the conceptual model of the Grim Slide from the time of Ronald Reagan to the present day. The changes in American society look like the systemic erosion of the social achievements and protections of the progressive era, and the economic misfortunes, falling wages and declining job security of many old media journalists reinforce their dark forebodings about what the transformations mean.
The elite press was once the custodian of a cultural consensus about the way America should work. There was always disagreement, and many people were angry about the role of the press but in the blue model’s heyday those dissenting voices were confined to the margins both by the structure of the American media system and by the strong social consensus in favor of the blue status quo. These days, the elite press is less custodian of a consensus than embattled defender of a controversial vision. Opposing voices are louder and more effective, and the underlying assumptions of the elite’s worldview are more openly and widely contested.

Why Romney Will Win

The PJ Tatler has a very interesting comment by Robert L. Mayo.  It makes a lot of sense.

I’ve been a tad bit busy lately getting into the George Mason econ PhD program and all. 2 years between posts seems reasonable to me.

…anywhoo,

I was thinking about how many people (especially on the right) are saying that the polls are skewed by unrealistic party ID weighting, i.e. if the sample contains 10% more Democrats than Republicans, of course it’ll show Obama ahead of Romney.

I did a little research which confirmed my suspicion that self reported party identification is the most reliable predictor of voting behavior. It’s better than race, age, income, anything. So it occurred to me to compare past party ID to election results and extrapolate 2012 results from current (mid-Sept. ’12) party ID data. I’m just cutting and pasting from Excel so it may be ugly, but here’s what I found:

In 2004, Republicans outperformed their party ID by 4.7%
In 2008, Republicans outperformed their party ID by 0.4%
Today, Republicans have a 4.3% advantage in party ID

If this party ID vs. vote pattern holds, there will be a Republican landslide in 2012 of between R+4.7% and R+9.0%

Release the Khalidi Tape Now

The LA Times is in full cover-up mode for Obama's admiration support Islamosfascist murderers.

Roger Simon:

Does some ideological predisposition exist at the top of our executive branch that makes it easier to accede to the reactionary wishes of religio-fascist cultures where separation of church and state is anathema and the oppression of women endemic?

For some years, I and others have sought the answer to this riddle through the release of a tape held in the vault of the Los Angeles Times. This tape, known as the Khalidi Tape, records a going-away party held in Chicago in 2003. Here’s what I wrote back in April 2010:

Rashid Khalidi — a Palestinian-American historian known for his strong pro-Palestinian opinions — is currently the Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia and director of that university’s Middle East Institute. After Khalidi received this Columbia appointment in 2003, a farewell dinner party was held in his honor in Chicago. A videotape was made of that party where many good things were said about the Palestinian cause and many bad things about Israel. Then Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama was in attendance, as were, some say, William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.

That tape, as Leon DeWinter reminded us, was given at some point by an unknown person to Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times. Wallsten then reported on some of its contents in a brief LAT article of April 10, 2008 titled “Allies of Palestinians see a friend in Obama.”

Perhaps because it was so attenuated, that article engendered a cry for the release of the full tape. What really happened at the party? What was said? How did Obama react? People wanted to know more details of the Middle East views of the presidential candidate. But the LAT was effectively mum and sequestered the tape in its safe.

Paper: US Was Warned About Libya Attack and Did Nothing

Independent – The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were likely to have been the result of a serious and continuing security breach, The Independent can reveal.

American officials believe the attack was planned, but Chris Stevens had been back in the country only a short while and the details of his visit to Benghazi, where he and his staff died, were meant to be confidential.

Obama Shoots First, Aims Later, Misses. Pray for His Replacement.

After the deadly attack on the United States Embassy in Libya, it was apparent to many that the attack was premeditated and designed to kill Americans – not to protest an amateur-made movie that mocked Islam and disrespected Mohammad. The militant 9-11 attackers totally achieved their goal by leaving the United States Embassy in shambles with charred and blood-stained walls as well as a trail of death.

Yet the current administration in the United States government insisted otherwise. President Barack Obama, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney led the way by denouncing those who dared state the obvious version of what had happened in Benghazi, Libya – that it was about terrorism and not about the anti-Mohammad film.
Incompetence?  Stupidity?  Politics?  Why not all three?

It's obvious that Obama doesn't want to admit that his Middle East policy just blew up.  After all, he claimed that with his election, the Muslim world would see America in a totally new light.  "The day I'm inaugurated Muslim hostility will ease."  Obama's promises were so grandiose, I wondered if people would begin to laugh as he told them that his election meant that the seas would recede and the earth would heal.  Those are promises that assumed the person making them had Godlike powers.

He claimed that simply because who he was his election would cause a tectonic shift in Middle East politics and the people in the region would love Obama's America.  There is reason to believe that it had the opposite effect; it made them hate us.  As the Arab Spring morphed into the Islamofascist Fall Team Obama hope that the deterioration of America's influence would not become apparent until after the election.  So when the the Islamic world blew up, Team Obama took out the playbook they have been using ever since 2008 and blamed someone else.  In this case they were given a slim reed by references in Arab countries to a video trailer that no one had ever heard of and which no one had ever seen, clinging to it like a life raft.  And they may have gotten away with it - as they would have gotten away with Fast and Furious - except for that Libyan ambassador getting killed.
How does the Arab world view Obama's America?  A year ago Michael Prell showed what was happening and today's riots and killings are the result of Obama, the Arab's "Weak Horse."

In the Palestinian territories, where the people have rarely found a more vocal champion than in the Obama White House, 82 percent of Palestinians have an unfavorable view of the United States ...

In Egypt, America’s approval ratings have dropped since Mr. Obama’s now-famous Cairo speech from 30 percent to 5 percent ...

Mr. Obama is the president who lost Turkey. In the short time that has passed since he bad-mouthed American history and power in his speech to the Turkish parliament, Turkey’s approval rating for America has dropped to 14 percent. The once-secular Turkish nation has become more radicalized and Islamist, and Turkey has gone from being the vacation destination for Israeli tourists to one of Israel’s biggest threats.
The Arab world has never been fond of the West, but they respected and feared the consequences of open violence against us.  That is why bowing and supplication to "kings," "princes" and bloody potentates from a part of the world that, until the second half of the 20th Century, was occupied by wandering camel jockeys and goat herds was such a colossal mistake.

Correcting this defeat, and it can be corrected with the right policies, will cost lives and treasure and will require a realistic appreciation for our strengths and weaknesses.  We have an opportunity to remove Obama and his delusions of grandeur this fall.  Pray that the American people take the chance fix the mistake they made in 2008.

ELITIST, OUT-OF-TOUCH MEDIA COMPLAIN ROMNEY NOT REGULAR GUY

Ann Coulter takes on the media obsession with Romney while our embassies are under siege and our ambassador is killed.

Only our totally unbiased watchdog media could turn the burning of U.S. embassies in countries where Barack Obama had recently supported mob revolts into Mitt Romney's blunder. Journalists couldn't risk having Obama's campaign slogan "Osama is dead" being amended with "and so is our ambassador."

And the 47% obsession ...

At a private gathering, Romney told donors that Obama had a lock on the 47 percent of voters "who pay no income tax" and "believe the government has a responsibility to care for them." This was deeply offensive to people who pay no income tax and believe the government has a responsibility to care for them.

But no matter how much the media belch out the usual cliches -- out of touch, insensitive, racist, not one of us, Thurston Howell, etc. etc. -- all most people heard was: FORTY-SEVEN PERCENT OF AMERICANS PAY NO INCOME TAX?

A friend of mine who spent time in Russia during the '70s told me that whenever a Russian would bring up the extensive coverage of Watergate, he'd sigh, thinking he'd have to explain that the American political system was not as corrupt as the commissars would have it. But all they ever wanted to ask him was: "Do all Americans have such nice shoes?"

The lesson is: You can't always control what the audience notices.

Thanks to the myopia of our one-party media, most journalists are firmly convinced that voters will be appalled by Romney's description of 47 percent of Americans as supporting Obama because they pay no income tax. (Yes, head-up-their-butts journalists in the charming little burg of Manhattan are complaining that Romney isn't connecting with ordinary people.)

But the only people shocked by Romney's statement of fact are those who would never vote Republican under any circumstances. Everyone else is saying, "Is it really as high as 47 percent?" -- as the media impotently shouts, "No, you idiot! That's not the point!"

“It’s important to destroy their sense of individualism while they’re still young.”

Confidential Study Reveals Global Finance Is One Big Guesstimate

A few months ago, when the Libor-rigging scandal hit, casual finance-watchers were aghast at the idea that an interest rate that was used to set rates on trillions of dollars of mortgages, car loans, and other financial products was essentially calculated by polling a few banks and expecting them not to lie to everyone. The most important number in global finance run on the honor system? Couldn't be.
But it was, and Libor was in fact undone by its own trusting nature. As we now know, a coalition of overgrown frat boys conspired to rig the rate, jettisoning the gentleman's honor of Wall Street past and paving the way for Bob Diamond's ouster.
But you can trust those poll numbers that show Obama winning when you ask 45 Democrats, 30 Republicans and 25 Independents ... can't you?  Huh?  Can't you?  Especially when most people say that the country is on the wrong track and Romney is getting a majority of the Independents.

Christopher Hitchins on free speech

I am ambivalent about Hitchins. He was a loud and obnoxious atheist. But the next time you are told you are a homophobe, a bigot, a sexist, a racist or any one of a seeming endless ways that the Left tries to shout you down, his last line is worth repeating:

"pick a number, get on line and kiss my ass."

Another day, another disaster: So what now for Afghanistan?

Headline you won't see in America's state controlled media:

Kim Sengupta reports on a chaotic 24 hours that saw the Allies in disarray, the exit strategy seemingly in tatters and a dozen killed by a suicide bomb

The decision announced yesterday to cut back on joint operations undertaken by international and Afghan forces raises crucial questions about the key plank of the exit strategy from the 11-year war which has proved costly in lives and money.

The move is also a significant propaganda coup for the insurgents, coming just after their assault on Camp Bastion which resulted in the destruction of warplanes worth $200m. For the British and coalition troops, the announcement in Washington will only highlight the mistrust which has been the inevitable consequence of 51 deaths inflicted by their supposed Afghan brothers-in-arms.

Let's summarize the way Team Obama has managed our affairs with Islam during his regime.  Bush left him a war that was won in Iraq and a Middle East that was quiet.  Four years later the followers of Mohammad are rioting all over the world, screaming "Death to America,"  they have killed one of our ambassadors to a country whose leader we overthrew in a war that was waged without even a legal fig leaf, Egypt is now in the stage where Iran was just after the Shah departed, our "exit strategy" for leaving Afghanistan won't work because the troops we are training there are killing our troops - in record numbers.

And all this while racking up more debt than any of Obama's predecessors - and most of his predecessors combined.  More people have given up looking for work than are finding jobs.  Corporate earnings are headed down again.  Races are at each others throats while Team Obama stoked a war between men and women.  Religions are being placed under the yoke of government bureaucrats - except for Islam which expresses it's unhappiness by killing those who insult them.  The American President is despised and ridiculed despite having bowed to kings and dictators.

I would like to think it's sheer incompetence, because the alternative is too scary to contemplate.

And this clown wants to renew his term in office?

Lord, please give us a break, we solemnly pray.

Lafe Solomon Unethical

Shifty eyed lawyer who has never been confirmed to his post found to have conflict of interest and violated ethics rules. Of course the scumbag denies it.

Picture of another unethical member of Team Obama

Lafe Solomon, the Acting General Counsel (he’s never been confirmed by the Senate) of Obama’s National Labor Relations Board, has been found by the NLRB’s violated federal ethics rules by helping investigate a case involving Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., a company that Solomon owned more than $18,000 in stock.
